Dude Doesn’t Dig Lines
Okay, so let me make sure I get this straight. You want us to run across half of Vana’diel, farm a key item in a dangerous aggro infested zone & make our way through said area, with all its little tricks and traps. Make it all the way to the top floor, and then expect us to wait in your self-imposed line for an hourish.
Sorry, not to sound like an asshole about this, but I don’t think so folks. Next time, please consider not waiting till the last possible minute to do an event that you likely will not see for another 3 years on any server. This game is all about competition, and if you aren’t willing to compete then get the hell out of our way.
Thank you, rant mode off.

A few friends and I, who have been on the server long time, have talked about the lines before and even though we agree that the game is about competition we also agreed that the courtesies we have or had were part of the reasons we loved our server. So even though I know that, hey, what you did was alright in the competitive sense, I still can’t help but also feel sad because it’s just one of the things I like about the game and server that is different from others. I know not everyone likes it, but it still makes me sad whenever the unspoken rules (well, they were written at one point) are broken.

Okay, don’t get me wrong, I’m a nice guy and all. But I’ll be damned if after I’ve made the preparations needed for the event, farmed up the needed key items, and got to the top of a heavily aggro infested zone (even to level 90). I’m not about to go up and sit for an hour in a “self-imposed” line. My time is precious, and I’m not about to waist it on people who want to solo/duo/whatever the f*ck-o spending 10 minutes dicking around in the BCNM. Especially when we’re dropping these guys in under 3 minutes a pop.
-
But that’s saying that other people’s times aren’t precious either? :\ That’s kinda presumptuous. The argument can easily be turned around if you’re talking about waiting until the last minute and so on. Just saying; if you like rolling that way, that’s fine and I get it. I have my personal view on it and I personally don’t think think its not cool and doesn’t really make me think it is at all nice no matter how you spin it.

I think a more viable solution is to come up with a system that allows for multiple people to enter the BCNM at a time. I still very much like and fully appreciate the courtesy system we have on Ragnarok even if others don’t and even if it has its flaws. It is what makes Ragnarok what it is and why I love it dearly, and in the future I would like to see those from other servers participate in our strange customs. Its not a request nor a demand nor anything. Its a teeny tiny hope that I’m not even holding my breath on. Kinda like, well, I’ll refrain from making racist/political remarks here on real life events.

I dunno, Kimi. It’s kinda weird when you say stuff like “Next time, please consider not waiting till the last possible minute to do an event that you likely will not see for another 3 years on any server,” only you’re doing the exact same thing and then rubbing it in other’s faces. Not saying that being competitive is good or bad, but that’s a separate issue entirely from saying things that make you seem like you feel entitled to cut in front of everyone else in line. Just saying.
But I’ve noticed that there’s just a difference in mentality between Ragnarok people and Cait Sith, so I suppose it’s just a different way of thinking about things. But I’m sincerely hoping you don’t cut real world lines like that, too.

Rapid fire responses, go!
1) We were technically guilty of waiting until the last minute only in the sense that we had already spent our tags on Sunday and had a fresh batch for Saturday night.
2) Re: Cutting in front of lines. It doesn’t mean that my time is more important than anyone else’s, however, that sentiment must be returned: Someone who’s only just gotten on game and is patiently waiting for the line to move isn’t more important than someone who has been running around a convention and a concert and on five hours of sleep and trying to test their luck before bed. The idea of forming a line in a competitive environment is laughable at best simply because of Abyssea existing.
2a) I can’t think of the last time a pick-up or competing group formed a line at a ??? spot to pop an NM, or let one alone if it went yellow. I find it incomprehensible that people are picking and choosing when to be cutthroat in a game where stealing NMs and the sort has existed for years and years.
3) I gave the order to cut in line and Kimi resisted me on it, so any and all liability falls upon these shoulders, not his. The “rules” of a server are set by the lowest denominator, and you can blame them for people not wanting to be compassionate in situations like this. If you have ever complained about a solo beastmaster holding an HNM with a PDT set for hours while waiting to get a zone clear, you are not allowed to suggest people wait in line. If you’ve ever gripd about being blocked in Sky because some RDM decided to solo-kite Genbu for two hours, you are not allowed to suggest people wait in a line. My time isn’t more important than anyone else’s, no, but I’ll similarly be damned if I am forced to wait in line behind someone with no capacity to be efficient because of a presumed courtesy that has never been extended anywhere else.

In the real world, when you break laws and rules, there are consequences and there are people who make sure the laws of the land are enforced. THUS if you break the law, it’s bad, and THUS why some of us decide to NOT break laws.
In a world with no consequences for your actions and no law to punish those that dissent, how can this freaking LINE be enforced?
Oh wait, it can’t. And that is why this whole ‘line’ thing that this post is about cannot work. This is survival of the fittest and you are in the way of my delicious rewards, so move along!
But hey, if you are this bear I guess you can wait in line! Patient bear is patient.

Welcome to Ragnarok etiquette. Sadly people like to wait until the last minute to do stuff. Including you guys by the look of that picture. But yes. Those lines are common about the more polite crowd. Too many hurps and derps running about in abyssea so it is the exception to the rule.
